TYEDRIC HILL

Tyedric Hill is an American dancer, choreographer and educator, passionate about exploring and transmitting African-American dances. He embodies the spirit of his ancestors, celebrating the deep roots of authentic jazz, lindy hop and tap, as well as more contemporary styles such as hip-hop, breaking and house. In his performances, he highlights the evolution of these social and vernacular dances, while remaining true to the authenticity that characterizes these art forms. Tyedric distinguishes himself by his personal approach to dance, which he sees as a means of paying homage to black cultural traditions, carried by fundamental values such as authenticity, community, hope and dignity. He teaches and choreographs dances that are rooted in African-American history, while reinventing them to suit modern sensibilities. His work is a quest to demonstrate that African-American dance forms, though often overshadowed by Eurocentric styles such as ballet and contemporary dance, are foundations of modern dance.
A passionate dancer and competitor, Tyedric has a long experience of international stages, where he shares his expertise and energy with dance communities. His workshops, which combine technique and history, are spaces for learning and celebrating social and vernacular dances.
