“Jazzpora,

a dance conference at the heart of African diasporas (Oct 8, 25)

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as part of the Europe-Africa 2025 Biennial, the Restanque third-place in Montpellier hosted Jazzpora, a participatory dance conference organized by Swinging Montpellier and the Museik 1st collective.

Conceived as a moment of sharing and transmission, Jazzpora retraces the history of African diasporas and their major influence on contemporary popular music and dance. From Jazz to Salsa, from House to Hip-Hop, the event highlights the cultural and artistic filiations of African roots, often overlooked by the general public.

Halfway between a conference and a performance, the meeting alternates educational talks, dance demonstrations, initiation sessions and a final jam open to all. A lively, accessible approach, designed for a family audience, that invites us to understand cultural circulation through the body, rhythm and listening.

By combining historical knowledge and artistic practices, Jazzpora is fully in keeping with the spirit of the Europe-Africa Biennial, which aims to promote intercultural dialogue and enhance the shared heritage of the two continents.
